Happy New Year to you all! We are now looking to increase our number of freelance Latex copyeditors. We have work across the STM field and also in the Social Sciences.

If this is of interest do contact Jessica Stock, jessica.stock@sunrise-setting.co.uk

Christmas 2011

Unbelievably, the end of the year has now arrived. We seem to have been incredibly busy in 2011, with various new projects.

In May/June of this year we started, in collaboration with River Valley Technologies, the copyediting and typesetting of the Journal of Fluid Mechanics for Cambridge University Press. This is a large fortnightly international journal. Taking on a journal of this size took a lot of organisation and management in the setting-up and transition phases, so that production continued seamlessly. We are pleased to say that it is now well settled in and the production model between ourselves and RVT works very well.

This year has also seen us increase the number of books we project manage. We have supplied copyediting, typesetting with xml, proofreading and indexing for various customers, enjoying the opportunity to run projects from receipt of manuscript right through to print and publication of e-books, including e-Pub and Kindle files. I always find it very satisfying to actually see the final product go off to the customer.

We have continued the copyediting service we provide for Sage Publications, increasing the number of pages edited. Managing the workflow for our editors is actually easier the greater the volume as the work is more continuous with fewer lulls in work for our copyeditors.

Looking forward to 2012, we have another new journal starting for Cambridge, Medical History, and are looking to further our collaboration with River Valley Technologies. We will keep you posted!

May I finally take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and best wishes for 2012.

Spring Update

In recent months we are pleased to have secured work on a number of new journals. We have increased the number of pages that we edit for Sage Publications and this work now includes the series of journals on Therapeutic Advances and several journals in the Social Sciences, including the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships and the Australian Journal of Management. We have also been working on a new journal Environmental Technology for Taylor & Francis.

In addition, we have now started working for the Taylor & Francis book department, taking on the project management of several books, including copyediting, typesetting and indexing.

The WIT Press conference season is in full flow, keeping Nita and Theresa in the office very busy. We project management and format many pages of Microsoft Word documents, and then produce paginated PDFs and XML for each conference. Many authors are not native speakers and this adds to the fun, especially when trying to format Chinese Word documents when the text is still flowing from right to left even though it is in English!

London Book Fair 2010

Once again, the time for the London Book Fair is upon us. As usual we have a small press stand in the Publishing Solutions zone, stand R705. Being at the fair gives us the opportunity to catch up with current customers and also to try to attract new ones. It also gives me a chance to see what is going on in the book arena, especially in relation to new technology.

When you say you are a typesetting company, people tend to think that is all you do, but these days our services are much wider: copyediting, quality control, project management, liaison with printers and editors, permissions – the list is long as we aim to provide an all round flexible service. We are also happy, however, for customers to just pick the bit they require; for example, they might typeset their book themselves and just want a copyedit and a pagination check, or they might have a bank of copyeditors which need managing and quality controlling. Here at Sunrise with a bit of personal service we can fit in where needed.

I would obviously be pleased to see you at the fair, do come along and say hello!

Autumn Update

In recent months we are pleased to have secured work on a number of new journals. We are now editing in LaTeX and Microsoft Word for Sage Publications (The International Journal of Robotics Research, Textile Research Journal and Multiple Sclerosis) and Taylor & Francis (Advances in Physics and Liquid Crystals). We are also editing in LaTeX for Biomed Central on various journals.

For many years we have project managed and edited Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems for Cambridge University Press and are now pleased to add three more Cambridge journals (The ANZIAM Journal, The Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society and the Journal of the Australian Mathematical Society) to this workflow.

We provide a full project management service for Cambridge, being responsible for the journals from the manuscript stage right through to the supply of print PDFs and XML. This includes liaison with authors and academic editors, issue make-up and, most importantly, ensuring that the journal schedule is met throughout the year.

We have been editing and typesetting three journals for Incisive Media for some time and we have now commenced work on a fourth, The Journal of Risk.

Along with a regular stream of XML, conference proceedings and book projects, our office is a hive of activity, but we are always glad to take on more!

Please click here to see the range of services we offer. Do bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list& if you need something a little different we are more than happy to tailor our service to fit your needs. We pride ourselves on our customer-responsive approach and if there is anything at all that we can help you with, please contact us. We d really like to hear from you.

Thumbs up to a successful London Book Fair

With the second move in two years I was wondering what the 2007 London Book Fair had in store for us. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Earl s Court was a vast improvement on last year. The atmosphere was more relaxed, the aisles wider and easier to view, the catering more efficient and, most importantly, the number of visitors to our stand was much higher. The only problem we seemed to encounter was the odd numbering system – with our stand being the last number in our Q section, I soon became aware of the lost visitor look, the pause, the gazing up at the numbers, the perusal of the map and then the puzzled stare! Fortunately, I was usually able to point people in the right direction, but I wonder how many appointments were missed as clients wondered around searching for the correct stand location?

For me, the fair was a chance to catch up with current customers, to meet new folk and to see what is new in the book world. We had much interest in our XML typesetting workflow and also in our QualEcheck service, for quality control of copyediting. When you say you are a typesetting company, people tend to think that is all you do, but these days our services are much wider: copyediting, quality control, project management, liaison with printers and editor, permissions – the list is long as we aim to provide an all round flexible service. We are also happy, however, for customers to just pick the bit they require; for example, they might typeset their book themselves and just want a copyedit and a pagination check, or they might have a bank of copyeditors which need managing and quality controlling. Here at Sunrise with a bit of personal service we can fit in where needed.

For me, I am now busy chasing up new contacts so for us the London Book Fair was definitely a success.

New web site launched for January 2007

As a bright start to the New Year we have now launched our new look web site. Our old site had been up for nearly 10 years in one form or another and we felt that it was time to start afresh. For us our web site is a place to put forward the high-quality services we offer, and also a chance to keep customers, new and old, up-to-date with any changes afoot and highlights to our year here in South Devon. If you have any comments or suggestions do let us know.
